Alcohol
ALCOHOL, is among the most common organic compounds. It is characterized by one or more hydroxyl (−OH) groups attached to a carbon atom of an alkyl group (hydrocarbon chain), with the general formula CnH2n+1. Shorter hydrocarbon chain alcohol is soluble in water, the solubility gradually decreases when the hydrocarbon chain becomes longer.
Alcohol can be used as a solvent and as a fuel. They are one of the most useful of solvents, both for organic and inorganic substances. They are also good fuels because of the presence of the hydrocarbon chain.
Alcohols are highly flammable and poisonous. All handlers of solvents must fully understand and observe the "Safety Data Sheet (SDS)" and use appropriate protective gear to prevent fire and leakage.
