Glycols & Glycol Ethers
GLYCOLS, any of a class of organic compounds belonging to the alcohol family; in the molecule of a glycol, two hydroxyl (−OH) groups are attached to different carbon atoms.
GLYCOL ETHERS & THEIR ESTERS, with both an ether group and an alcohol or ester group in the same molecule, they can mix with both water and other organic solvents, and combine powerful dissolving characteristics with low volatility. This combination of properties gives glycol ethers some key performance characteristicsfor solvent-based systems.
Most glycols, glycol ethers and their esters do not present a significant flammability hazard at normal storage temperature. All handlers of solvents must fully understand and observe the "Safety Data Sheet (SDS)" for more specific health and safety information.
